I’ve read a few of the books by Dr. Jason Fung on fasting, but Megan Ramos works with him, so of course, they are both very enthusiastic about the benefits of fasting. You can choose to do Intermittent Fasting for a few hours or a 24-hour fast, which is the longest suggested amount of time by Virta. Still, she does go into the benefits of shorter and longer fasts and how they help our bodies reach autophagy, which is a natural process that helps our cells regenerate for optimal performance.
Even though Ms. Ramos does delve into many of the benefits of fasting for women and focuses on several female health issues, there are many of the same benefits for men.
Audible has changed my life. I “read” so many more books because I can listen and do other things at the same time. Audible has the world’s largest audio book collection, including children’s books to help instill a love of reading. Try for 30 days at no cost and get up to two books for free!
The book covers various types of fasting protocols, including intermittent fasting, extended fasting, and time-restricted eating, while taking into account hormonal fluctuations and menstrual cycles that can affect women's responses to fasting. Ramos provides practical advice on how to adjust fasting schedules to accommodate these factors.
She also discusses the potential benefits of fasting for women, such as improved insulin sensitivity, weight management, and hormonal balance. The book does a commendable job of citing scientific studies to support its claims and recommendations, giving readers confidence in the information presented. There are also lots of anecdotal stories from those on a fasting journey.
I have been experimenting with some very short-term fasting, with coach and provider approval, in addition to the intermittent fasting I’ve been doing for about three years now. I find it very easy, freeing in a lot of ways, and I just feel like it’s giving my cells a rest and that’s beneficial both for weight loss and blood sugar control.
However, it's important to note that fasting might not be suitable for everyone, and consulting your coach and healthcare professional is very important before making significant changes to your diet or fasting practices is advisable.
Overall, "The Essential Guide to Fasting for Women" is a valuable resource for women interested in exploring fasting as part of their health and wellness journey. Megan Ramos' expertise and insights make this book a very worthwhile read for those seeking to understand and incorporate fasting practices into their lives. She also has a paid fasting program and website with Dr. Fung called thefastingmethod.com which has lots of free great podcasts that are extremely understandable and very interesting if you would like to know more about fasting, in particular Intermittent Fasting!
