Yes, you can make cheese chips in the oven, but using a mini waffle maker, I think, is easier and makes them even crispier. These chips were SUPER crunchy and crispy! They also take much less time than using the oven. The only advantage an oven would be I think is if you wanted to do a larger batch. I’m not sure how these chips would be the next day, so I recommend making however much you need at one time so they don’t lose their crispness.
I used three kinds of cheese. Just about any hard cheese can be used. I used Fiesta Blend, Parmesan, and Provolone. I wanted to try Mozzarella, but I didn’t have any. The Fiesta Blend and Parmesan worked great, but the Provolone did not as much. The Parmesan is a little salty and I was thinking maybe Mozzarella would be a little less salty. I also sprinkled different seasonings, like Everything Bagel Seasoning, Ranch powder, cheese powder, cheesy jalapeño seasoning, and taco seasoning. You certainly don’t have to use all of them. I was experimenting with the seasonings I had. I liked the chips a lot with the different seasonings! So fire up your mini Dash and make some chaffle chips! And no more $2-$3 for a bag of cheese crisps! 🧇
Update: I prepared a less cheesy chip!
I was thinking how cheese crips are just a little too cheesy for me. Even Whisps are too cheesy, I still eat them and think they are good, but would just prefer less cheese! I decided to see how I could change things. I didn’t want to add an egg and make them puffy, so I just added about 1-1/2 teaspoons of almond flour plus a little sprinkle of Smoky Cheesy Jalapeño seasoning to the dry cheese, and it turned out GREAT! It tasted like a regular chip, so experiment with this and see if you like it better! 👍🏼
Here are some of the seasonings I used to season the chaffle chips. 🧇😊
Everything Bagel Seasoning
McCormick Ranch Powder
Pork King Good White Cheddar Seasoning
Pork King Good Variety - 3-pack
Some of the seasonings can be a little pricey, but they last a long time, and I have to search and search to find things without all the chemicals, bad oils, and the best clean ingredients possible. It can hurt the wallet to be healthy, but it’s worth it! 💰
