Crispy Keto Parmesan Tomato Chips🍅

Shared by DeniseM

I’m trying to think if I’ve ever dehydrated anything and absolutely nothing is coming to my mind, so it’s about time I try it I think! I am unfortunately regretting my decision! Ha!

Actually, I think this is just one of those cooking techniques that needs a little more work and experimentation. I also only have a very small dehydrator function on my air fryer, so I used a large cookie sheet, with racks, in the oven at 275 degrees. Perhaps, if you have a dehydrator, these might come out spectacular because they were actually very good!

I started out with four tomatoes and the recipe states cut six slices, but I only got five because the recipe said thicker slices worked better, so I wanted to make sure the slices were thicker. I think that is definitely true that it’s best not to do thin slices because as the moisture is cooked out the slices get smaller and smaller.

Here’s how they looked on Sugarfreemom.com (MUCH better than mine😄) Don’t they look so good?

I think also you could choose whatever veggies or fruit you like and use your dehydrator to make all kinds of chips!

This is the recipe I used.

I started out by slicing the tomatoes and placing them on racks over a silpat mat. You can also use parchment paper.

I then sprayed with avocado oil and sprinkled the slices with garlic powder and placed the cookie sheet in a 275 degree oven for about 3 hours.

The comments at the bottom of the page stated over and over the recipe was too salty so I elected not to use any salt because the Parmesan Cheese is actually very salty.

After 3 hours I removed the tomatoes from the oven and sprinkled them with the Parmesan, a little Italian seasoning and turned on the broiler for just a couple of minutes. Then finished the slices with a little chopped parsley.

This was a bit more work for very little end results. When the moisture is cooked out there isn’t much left, but what was left was very good. Some chips were very crispy, some were not. So maybe if I had a garden with lots of tomatoes I might give this another go!🍅

Here’s the nutrition from Sugarfree Mom. It’s also easy to over do these because the volume has been cooked out, so be careful!
