Give Skin Toner a Try

I've always had facial skin problems. In my mid-30s, I was diagnosed with Rosacea and would periodically have flare-ups of cystic acne or a red flush. I would go on a course of antibiotics and use a prescribed topical cream. I was advised to avoid things that caused the flares: caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, heat, extreme cold, etc. Well, since I love most of those things, my flare-ups continued. Plus, I live in Georgia, where from May to September, it is HOT!

I've noticed that since I started following a keto lifestyle with Virta, my flare-ups have reduced. Since I don't have the flare-ups as often, I have noticed a new problem. My skin is looking old - which, in truth, it is. To address this, I began researching skincare products about 9 months ago, specifically looking for something to tighten and clear up my skin. Many community members recommended hyaluronic acid, which we will cover in another post. For now, I have found a toner that seems to be working on my large pores.

Toners offer an additional cleansing of your face, often targeting dirt build-up in your pores. After washing, you pour a little bit of the cleaner onto a cotton ball to clean your skin. Off and on through the years, I would use Neutrogena's toner, but I wasn't really noticing much difference.

Then I found the Biossance brand Biossance Squalane + BHA Pore Minimizing Toner and noticed a difference! I have smaller pores now, and my skin seems brighter. I've been using it for 8 months now, and I would say it took maybe 4 months before I noticed a difference. I have large pores, and now they aren't so large.

BHA is an exfoliating acid (beta hydroxy acid) and an oil soluble that works on the skin and the pores. Squalane is a moisturizer that mimics the skin's natural oils. You can read more about squalane on Healthline.

Of course, we all have different skin types, so it is important to test these products out, read the reviews, and only purchase small amounts at the beginning. I have many products that did not work, so now I carefully read reviews and check out the ingredients. I'll continue to use this product in addition to face cleansers, hyaluronic acid, moisturizers, and retinol.
