The photo below shows how the lovely citizens of Cincinnati serve their chili. This Texas girl is horrified! Ha! 😱 I’m actually just kidding, sort of, because to put chili on top of spaghetti, then pile an enormous mound of shredded cheddar cheese on top with chopped onions is perplexing, to say the least. Plus, this chili is not my beloved Texas chili; this chili has very foreign chili ingredients to me, like cinnamon, allspice, cloves, coconut aminos, and perhaps chocolate, though this is not firmly substantiated.

Scott Beale Skyline Chili 5-Way

I remember buying this chili long ago while doing low-carb, but not keto. I wanted a canned low-carb chili so badly and finally came across this one. The first time I tasted it, I thought, “Oh my heavens, what in the world is this?” But I gave it another chance (or two) and came to love it. Love might be a bit extreme. I came to like it very much, I’ll put it that way. Considering that this is the only low-carb chili option with acceptable ingredients that I could find, my choices are either to purchase this canned Cincinnati-style chili or make my own. While I often cook my own meals, there are times when I just want to take a break from cooking and reach for something that's already prepared.

Another little pesky detail to discuss is the price. Let’s say Cincinnatians are VERY proud of their chili. I have searched the Internet high and low, and the best price I found was at Walmart for $5.78. Kroger has it for $5.98. I can’t believe I would even contemplate paying that much! I even called the corporate office to see if they sell it less expensive than Walmart, but with shipping they were at $6.20 per can, but they are sending me coupons for two free cans! Hooray! They have very nice customer service in Cincinnati, thank you Marian! 😊 I did ask why it was double the price of most other chili and was told the high quality ingredients and all food prices have increased. I know that, especially chili! 😳

One other thing: this chili is not very thick. They say never pay for water. I think we are paying for water! It’s not watery per se, but it’s soupy, which I actually don’t mind that much. It does taste good as is, but I like to spice it up a bit. I am from Texas, and spicy food is a law, so I add some Dan O’s Spicy Seasoning, and that makes it really good. So if you want to live life on the wild side, give this Skyline Original Chili Company and the proud citizens of Cincinnati a chance at their chili, then take another chance, and another chance until it begins to taste really good! 😂

This article details the nutrition information on several cans of chili and Skyline comes out on top in the keto/low carb macros.👍🏼

Another excellent plus is the macros. This chili packs a protein punch! An excellent protein count of 23 grams per cup, and I eat the whole can, so 46 grams And only 8 carbs for the whole can! The sodium is very high, so you wouldn‘t have to do one daily broth!

The Skyline Chili comes in a pouch or can.

Skyline chili is also available on Walmart.com.

I actually have attempted a keto version of the Chili Spaghetti and used low-carb shiitake noodles with chili and cheese. Let’s say I will take my Texas chili with cornbread! Ha! I’ll include that recipe, too. 🌶️

Stay warm and have some chili! 🍵
