I have never made or eaten jerk anything! How did that happen? So I thought now was the time. The jerk flavor is different, but I liked it. I finally found a jerk seasoning without sugar, and this seasoning would be very good sprinkled on chicken, fish, or even steak. So try cabbage the Jamaican way!

Jerk Cabbage with Sausage, Shrimp, and Bacon

This recipe can be adjusted with whatever seasonings you like, but this is what I did.

I fried one pound of bacon and removed it from the pan.

Adding two packages of sliced andouille sausage or Polish sausage would be good, too, as well as frying that and removing it from the pan.

Next was a large package of peeled and deveined shrimp. I used the Colossal size, but whatever size you like. I dried the shrimp and sprinkled them with jerk seasoning. It's cooked on both sides to get a little color. Don’t overcook them or they get rubbery. Then, remove them from the pan.

I added one large chopped onion with about two heaping tablespoons of minced garlic, then three chopped red and yellow bell peppers, and cooked until they were slightly done but still a little crispy.

I added 1 1/2 heads of green cabbage to the pan, chopped, and cooked everything for about three minutes on medium-high heat. I don’t like the cabbage mushy, so I don’t cook it too long.

I added the sausage, shrimp, and chopped bacon to the pan. Adjust your seasonings however you like. I added about 2-3 teaspoons of jerk seasoning. Start with two and see if you would like more. I added seasoning salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper. Stir everything together, and you have a great one-skillet meal!

Here is the jerk seasoning I used. It is so difficult to find it without sugar and clean ingredients!
