I canā€™t stress enough the need to monitor and stay on top of your eye health! I canā€™t stress enough the need to monitor and stay on top of your eye health! I speak from experience and one day you think everything is fine and the next day youā€™re not and youā€™re sitting in a doctorā€˜s chair and the doctor is about to stick needles in your eyes! šŸ‘€ If you have diabetes it is critical to have an eye exam every year and keep your blood sugar under good control.

Itā€™s crucial not to overlook the profound impact Diabetes has on every organ in our bodies, especially our eyes. If you let your blood sugar remain high for prolonged periods a variety of catastrophic health conditions can happen and one of them is Diabetic Retinopathy. Itā€™s a condition that damages the blood vessels in the eye and retina. You have excessive bleeding in the back of the eye. If this is left untreated this can lead to blindness.

Adhering to a keto diet, rich in good quality protein and vegetables can help stabilize blood sugar and prevent eye damage. Here's an article about all the different foods to eat for good eye health! Not all the food is keto so just eliminate those foods, but most of the foods that are listed are keto.

This graph from the Community Health Journal shows all the health conditions that cause blindness. Diabetic Retinopathy is at 4.8% which doesnā€™t seem like a huge percentage, but if you are in that 4.8% itā€™s devastating.

This next graph from the CDC shows how age, when first diagnosed with Diabetes, can impact the issues that ultimately lead to blindness.

This blog post is kind of short but sweet. You must get your eyes examined once a year if you have Diabetes. Even if you donā€™t have Diabetes get your eyes examined because other eye conditions can also lead to blindness. Eyes, they say, are windows to the soul, but more importantly, they are windows to your health! šŸ‘€

Wishing you good eye health and happinessā¤ļø
