Oh, turnips! We need to explore more recipes created with this root vegetable. They are a great replacement for potatoes. And, so much lower in carbs. Plus, they are packed with Vitamin C and other nutrients.
When buying turnips, look for the smaller ones, which aren’t as bitter. You’ll need to cook the turnips until they are soft. For the two recipes I tried, I had to increase the baking time a bit.
I used a mandolin to make the perfect slices, which saved me a lot of time. I wore a special glove that came with the mandolin to prevent an accident, so be very careful with them.
Both of these recipes I tried are excellent:
That Low Carb Life prepares Turnips Au Gratin with Monterrey jack cheese and cheddar cheese.
The Pioneer Woman prepares the Turnip Gratin with gruyere cheese instead and adds broth. It didn’t even need to be ketofied!
Look at our related posts for more recipes on turnips. But, we would love it if someone tried a good turnip greens recipe and posted the details! Or, maybe even try to ketofy a Woolton Pie!
Fun Facts about Turnips
Here are the differences between turnips and rutabagas.
They were used as jack-o’-lanterns before pumpkins.
